1 Introduction
1.1 What can I do here?
If you register, you can with other members, post to the forums, submit news stories, and keep in contact with other members of the SSCCOOS community.
1.2 Registering
In order to share data and view member profiles, you must register a member account for this website. You can register by visiting the registration page.
1.3 Logging in
Once you have a member account, you'll need to log in to the website by using the login page.
2 Working with the site
2.1 How can I share data?
You can share data by adding content to your member area. You can add many different types of content, including images, web pages, and generic files. To get to your member area, you have to register and log in to the site. Your username should now appear right below the SCCOOS navigation menu. Click on your username and you will enter your member area.
You should now see two areas: a shaded area on the left with your user portrait, username and some quick links, and an enclosed area on the right with some default content. One of the links you should see on the left will read "Shared Files". Follow that link.
Now you are in your shared files section. You should see a grey frame in the center of the page with several tabs at top. Click on the 'contents' tab to add content here. Now you'll see a dropdown box reading 'select' with a button 'add new item' next to it.Select the content type you want to add from the menu and click on the 'add new item' button. For now, we'll assume that you want to upload a generic file to your shared data area.
Now you will be asked to provide a title and description for the file. The title is used to label your file, and should always be filled in. The description is sometimes displayed along with the title, and can be left blank. You'll also be asked to provide a file to upload. Browse your file system for the file to be uploaded and select it. Finally, click on the 'save' button to upload your file and save your information.
You've added content to your shared data section! In oder to view the entire contents of your shared folder, click on the contents tab. From here, you can delete files, make them private, or make them visible only to certain people.
2.2 How do I delete data I've posted to the site?
From the contents view of the folder where the content is located, select the file and click the 'delete' button at the bottom.
2.3 How do I make content private?
There are two ways you can accomplish this:
- From the folder view, you can select the item, and click the 'change state' button. This will take you to a page titled 'Publishing Process'. At the bottom of the page is a section titled 'change state'. Select the option 'Make private', and click the 'save' button.
- While viewing your content, you will see a section of the edit frame labeled 'state'. Clicking on the current state will show a list of possible states, such as 'published', 'private', and 'submit'. To make your content private, select the 'private' option.
2.4 How do I make content visible only to certain people?
While examining your content, select the 'sharing' tab on the edit frame. You will be taken to a page containing two sections. The bottom section is entitled 'Add sharing permissions for (your content name)'.
Enter the user name or email address of the user you want to add permissions for in the search term field, and click the 'perform search' button. If this user exists, you should see the users' name with a check by it. You will also see a dropdown box entitled 'Role to assign'.
Now you need to choose a role for this person. If you want this person to be able to edit the content, you can choose the 'Manager' role. This will give this particular user the ability to delete or completely modify this content.
You can revoke content sharing on this same page, by selecting the user in the 'Assigned Roles' section, and clicking the 'delete selected role' button.
2.5 How can I submit news stories?
To submit a news story, navigate to an area of the site where you can save content, like your member folder, and add content - in this case, you'll need to add a 'news item'. Edit the news item normally, and save it.
Now that your story is complete, you can submit it by changing its state to 'submit'. You will see the status change to 'pending.' Once a reviewer accepts your story, the status will change to 'public.' If your story is rejected, the status will return to its previous state.
