The analyses found on this site are products of the Geophysics Branch, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, Point Mugu California, and are intended for research use only. These analyses are not error-checked or quality controlled, so care should be taken in their use.

The blue vectors in the first plot represent the surface wind flow in the offshore marine layer and the adjacent basins of Southern California. The wind field is derived by interpolating the hourly wind observations taken at the stations denoted by the yellow circles. The stations denoted by the white circles are not included in the interpolation analysis as they are considered unrepresentative of the marine layer or low level basin flow due to their location or elevation.

The majority of the observational data is provided by the University of Utah MesoWest server. Plotting and interpolation uses the Tecplot software package.
